Hi, I'm Dan and a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney and Director of COLMAN+SMART. I have over 20 years of experience in the management of trade mark portfolios during my career that started in London and has since taken in Switzerland and Germany. I've worked for trade mark attorneys, patent attorneys, solicitors as well as in-house in the pharmaceutical industry and at a provider of outsourced intellectual property services and so I have broad experience.
I studied for a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property at Bournemouth University before embarking on the Professional Certificate in Trade Mark Practice at Nottingham Trent University. I also hold a qualification in Professional Investigation.
I am an active volunteer with the Chartered Insitute of Trade Mark Attorneys (CITMA) where I lead the CITMA Paralegal Course Working Group which provides an examined qualification to those working as trade mark paralegals. I contribute to the Paralegal Events Working Group, which provides educational events for CITMA Paralegals post-qualification. I also sit on the wider Education Policy & Development Committee.
Additionally, I am involved with CITMA's WIPO Liaison Working Group, which has observer status with WIPO, and looks into law and practice as relates to International trade marks.
I am Professional Representative number 61557 before the EU Intellectual Property Office (a European Trade Marks and Designs Attorney), and I am regulated by IPReg.
In my spare time, I'm a football fan and enjoy spending time with friends and family and walking our miniature dachshund. Music-wise, I am of the Britpop generation and I also like early 80s ska and synthpop.
